Greetings Weekend Writing Warriors!  These are the next 10 sentences in a sci-fi short story about Daniel, whose carefully planned and executed suicide turns out to be an inexplicable failure. Waking up, locked in a tiny cage, he discovers that his presence is a significant problem, to at least two others, too.

“Please don’t move.” The voice was apologetic. “Sorry, it’s a bit tight. It was the best we could find under such short notice.”

“For goodness sake!” The owner of the second voice was not in the least bit sorry, “Don’t talk to it! How many Regulations are you going to break today?”

The cage was a tight fit. He had been rolled into a fetal position and squeezed into it so that he was lying on his right side. The voices continued their argument behind him.

  1. Ha, definitely a conversation that gives anyone walking or listening in a double take. Especially when said onlooker finds that the cage has a he and not an it inside. Lovely snippet!

  2. Don’t talk to IT? What the heck, or who, is holding him captive. It’s got to be completely unnerving. He survived the suicide, happy or angry about it, he seems to have woud up in an even worse situation. Yikes.
