Greetings, Weekend Writing Warriors! These are another 9 sentences in my contemporary short story about a woman who chooses to even the score. Arriving at the annual awards event of the leading advertising agency in the city Marian is ushered to her table and sits through the variety show put on for the attendees. It is time for announcing the awards… and Marian awaits in the wings
Tod had begun announcing the lesser awards. The audience applauded enthusiastically as the successive winners arrived and departed, with their brief, overwhelmed, expressions of appreciation and exultance.
“And, now. The moment we have all been waiting for…” Marian’s heart pounded, her throat tightened. “The announcement of the overall winner, for Best Campaign for 2015.”
The hall thundered with applause.
“In an unprecedented show of support, our runner up has offered to introduce the winning campaign…”
The gentle push in the small of her back propelled her onto the stage.
Catching her breath, she raised her head, squared her shoulders and stepped confidently into the limelight.

Well! Now that she’s been shoved out into the limelight, what will she do??

So she didn’t win first place? Too bad, but it sounds as if she’s fine with that. Nice job building the suspense that comes with award ceremonies.

Hmm, I wonder if there was some cheating on the part of the winner, perhaps. Something hinky is definitely going on!

Ahh! What a cliffhanger! While you give a hint of who she is, I still have so many questions. And I’m waiting for the reaction of the person she went through all these changes for. Need more!! 🙂

So she’s the runner up? How would she know that in advance? I’m a bit puzzled although I certainly do feel the drama in the situation and how intense your character’s emotions are!

Good question, Veronica. Major awards like this are often pre-announced, to make sure the right people pitch, prepared. But this story has a twist, so she knew for a long time she would be runner up.
