Greetings, Weekend Writing Warriors!  I trust that you all had a magnificent Festive Season and are all suitably inspired for a productive and entertaining 2017?

Here is the next instalment of the third chapter of my short-but-growing-longer story about Daniel.

Daniel’s suicide attempt is thwarted by a two-second admin error by the Alien Specimen Collection Centre. The Alien Specimen Handlers decide to dispose of their ‘error’ by inserting Daniel into another world, and he finds himself being processed as an undocumented alien by the Galactic Government of Argle. During his induction, Daniel inadvertently qualifies himself for assignment to ASS. He is handed over to an earnest alien called Dravid. The story continues in Chapter Three: Waking Up In Someone Else’s Bed. The cheerful voice that greeted him upon waking continues…

“Our monitors confirm that your conversion was successful and that your condition is satisfactory. The door on your left leads to an ablution facility and the cupboards on your right contain your wardrobe. Please avail yourself of both. Dravid will collect you when you are dressed.”

In the silence that ensued, Daniel’s brain flickered fitfully through his memory. Unable to remember anything after meeting Dravid, he replayed the last few seconds, in stunned incomprehension.

Wait! What conversion?! What had they done to him?!

He scrambled to the ablution cubicle and slid to a panicked halt in front of the merciless mirror.

  1. Uh-oh! I can’t wait to hear what’s happened. “Conversion” doesn’t sound promising, and in my experience “satisfactory” is bureaucrat-speak for “bad, but could have been worse” 🙂

BTW – yes, I did get your email and I replied yesterday morning.I wonder if that’s got stuck somewhere?

  2. Conversion? I think that is something one would want to remember. Or maybe not. I’m curious to know if his reflection will be the same as he remembers. Loving the snippets from this story! 🙂
